magnum park

Magnum Park was established in 1988 by Charles and Connie Beadman as a family hobby stemming from a keen interest and following of horse racing over many years. A hobby which turned into a lifetime of enthusiasm and experience in harness racing and breeding. Our first harness horse being Thomas Magnum (by Magnum Almahurst out of Kajiki) going on to become a G1 Tasmanian Pacing Championship winner in 1992.

Over the years we have been fortunate to have had achievement with many great winners. In later years, the opportunity arose to venture into Thoroughbred racing and breeding. Our first galloper, joint owned with the McShane family, was Appmat (by Matsqui out of Apaiser) who went on to win the Brighton Cup and a valiant effort for 3rd in the Hobart Cup.

Having had much success with breeding pacers over the years, in 2021 our exciting new venture began with thoroughbred stallion Levendi (by Pierro out of Lipari) boasting a G1 win of the Australian Derby amongst his successes.

When Levendi came up for auction we jumped at the opportunity of purchasing him for a sire. With a sire line including Sir Tristram, Zabeel, Octagonal, Lonhro, Pierro who are all proven stallions and have been victorious at stud, Levendi is set to follow suit and we are excited to see the progeny he will produce and where this road leads.

Levendi stands at Broadmarsh Stud in united partnership with Magnum Park acting as a feeder farm and agistment for the enterprise.

broadmarsh stud

Broadmarsh Stud has been in operation since 1970. Many stallions have stood at this iconic farm which dates back for the current owners, to 1832.

Underground irrigation throughout the fields produce reliable crops year in year out from its rich black clay soils. The ground has supported now 9 generations of McShane’s.

Reliable, sound stock has graced tracks all over Australia for decades for mostly mum and dad breeders breathing enjoyment for many racing families.

Without doubt the best horse foaled down and handled in his formative days on the farm was Gee Gee’s Blackflash.

Virginia Gentleman was a sire of fast horses but reached his hallmark as the broodmare sire of WA champion Sanatate and iconic 2 year old, Rancher – the Blue Diamond winner and undefeated juvenile champion of his year – 8 runs 8 wins.

Matsqui proved how underrated he was as a sire, fathering a home bred champion in Norsqui who won The Adelaide Cup, Mornington Cup and The Lavazza Long Black. He rounded his career off with  2nd at Group 1 in the Sydney Cup.

Walter McShane is a co-founding member of the Tasmanian Breeders Association and remains a life member.

With so much experience to draw from the Stud looks set to create more popular memories for Tasmanian Racing Families and beyond.
